She was raised in California and Guatemala. Her practice in video and 16mm film is multimodal and research-based, and investigates race and labor, disease, and sites of historical and psychosocial trauma. R Yun is a recipient of the McKnight Visual Artist Fellowship; Jerome Foundation Film, Video and Digital Production Grant; McKnight Media Artist Fellowship; and University of Minnesota Libraries’ Archives and Special Collections Olson Innovation Artist in Residence Award. She earned her MFA in Film &amp; Media Arts from Temple University and her BA in Geography from UC Berkeley. She has taught moving image studies and production at University of the Arts in Philadelphia, University of California at Santa Cruz, Minneapolis College of Art &amp; Design and Carleton College. experimental documentary. The film traces the cultural and environmental influences of a soil-dwelling, pathogenic fungus, Coccidioides immitis, and its associated disease, valley fever, in California's Central Valley. Interweaving past, present and mythological time, the film draws upon historical and cultural references, including the plight of migrants during the Depression, the spread of the disease in recent years, contemporary theories of climate change, and the significance of the desert wind in ancient Assyria. In moments these figures share the frame with spectral artifacts from the territory's pre-Colombian past, while in other instances, the artifacts burst rapidly onto the screen as ethereal objects in exaggerated color and aliveness. Tzolk’in/ Count of Days&nbsp;features the minor Mayan artifacts of the museum's holdings offsetting the spatial design of the building and grounds, which intentionally centralized Mexico's prominent Aztec civilization. Most of the Mayan artifacts depicted were recovered in the early 1900s at the Sacred Cenote of Chichén Itzá, a prominent modern day tourist site in Yucatán province.
